Head Lice

Lice cases begin to increase during the fall and winter months. This occurs when students are together more in school and out of school.  Weekend sleep overs, playdates, and elsewhere (sports, playground, camp) often contribute to increased head to head contact causing the spread of the parasitic insect.

The Clinton Public Schools follow the guidelines set out from the Center for Disease Control (CDC) which includes a statement that it is not necessary to screen or notify classmates.  Open this link to see more about lice from the CDC and Lice

Please make it a routine in your home to regularly inspect your child’s hair and notify the school if any active lice are found.  If lice are found, parents should consult their pediatrician for guidance.  Applying an Over-The-Counter lice-killing shampoos, used according to directions, may be helpful but combing is necessary especially if the lice are resistant to the active ingredients in the shampoos.
